How Travel Shapes Our Interior Design Point of View
A Global Perspective
The Studio Rhodes design ethos was not formed in one city. It was shaped through years of living, studying, and working abroad, particularly in London, and traveling throughout Europe before establishing our interior design studio in Denver.
Today, as a Denver-based luxury interior design studio, that global perspective continues to influence every full-service residential project we take on. Travel refined our eye, sharpened our understanding of craft, and shaped how we think about creating homes that feel truly unique and deeply personal.
Here is how that international influence shows up in the homes we design across Denver and beyond.
A Lesson from London Architecture
Living and working in London fundamentally shifted our appreciation for architectural nuance. Walking through neighborhoods lined with centuries-old townhomes teaches you to notice subtlety.
But London design is also unapologetic. Color and pattern adorn surfaces. The fear is not of being too bold. The fear is of being ordinary. There is a certain maximalism that celebrates individuality and character.
That mindset influences how we approach design today. We begin by understanding what makes you unique, then thoughtfully select materials, finishes, and furnishings that reflect that identity.
Whether working on a full home renovation in Denver or helping a client personalize a new build, we carry that same belief: every detail matters.
How European Living Influences Luxury Living in Denver
In many European cities, homes are smaller and more layered. Rooms serve multiple purposes. Objects carry history. Design is collected and passed down over generations rather than purchased all at once.
When designing larger homes in the United States, especially new construction properties in Denver, we often reference those lessons. Just because a space is expansive does not mean it should lose its function. In fact, expansive homes require even more thoughtful planning to ensure they support daily life.
Too often we see large floor plans where life inside the home has not been considered, resulting in oversized rooms that feel disconnected or underutilized.
We approach luxury interior design in Denver differently.
More personality.
More texture.
More intention.
As a full-service interior design studio in Denver, our role is to guide clients through the design-build process with clarity and structure. We also gently push beyond comfort zones, helping clients move past trend-driven decisions toward homes that feel exciting, expressive, and enduring.
Our Aesthetic Was Refined Through Travel
Wandering through Paris flea markets.
Sketching in Copenhagen cafés.
Visiting showrooms in Milan.
These experiences challenged our early assumptions and helped refine our aesthetic.
We are drawn to contrast. Feminine and masculine. Raw and refined. Quiet and bold. We appreciate unexpected pairings, or a contemporary painting above a patinaed stone fireplace.
European interiors often feel personal rather than overly coordinated. There is a sense of individuality, sometimes even a touch of quirkiness, that often comes from handmade elements and timeworn materials. That sensibility guides our work when designing luxury residential interiors in Denver today.
Our Design Philosophy
Travel is not simply aesthetic inspiration. It is a philosophy.
It has taught us that the most compelling homes feel collected rather than staged. Worldly rather than trend-driven. Designed for real life rather than stark spaces that only look beautiful in photographs.
When we work with clients on full-service interior design projects in Denver, our goal is to create spaces that evolve with them. Homes that reflect the lives they have lived and the lives they are building.
Even if you have never left your hometown, thoughtful design has the power to transport you.
That is the power of a well-designed home.
